Benrus Ultra-Deep ref. 6088 c.1969

$0.00

If you’re a fan of Benrus models, or even know a good bit about them, this will likely perk up your ears…

One of the rarest dive watches the brand offered, this ref. 6088 frontloader, monocase Ultra Deep is highly sought after, and for good reason. Hindsight affords us the opportunity to see this model utilized by Navy SEALs, CIA, and others during the 1960’s and ‘70s, likely due to it’s excellent “waterproof” design. These models had no caseback, but had a locking crystal under the bezel to reduce or eliminate crystal deformation when taken deep under water. It is an all-around classic design, with a popular case style for the period, a full resin bezel, and superb hands and markers for ease of visibility.

If you own a 6089 Ultra Deep Super Compressor, you’ve found its lone sibling. If you don’t, this is the least accessible model of the two to get your hands on — so don’t pass up!

The Case - Sharp case in overall great condition. Has some light markings and scratches, but very acceptable in nature. Case is engraved with (presumably) original owner’s initials “S.K.” These models were commonly engraved, including with military information and person details to make identification easier. ‘Benrus’ signature on back is the later design (while dial shows the earlier font); Benrus advertisement material shows this transition between 1968 - 1969, which seems appropriate for dating the watch.

The Bezel - Superb bezel for its age. No cracks at all present.

The Crystal - Nice condition crystal with no major deficiencies.

The Dial - Very nice dial with no significant flaws. Lume is extremely good for these models; certainly better than most.

The Hands - Great condition with intact, original lume. Also better than most you’ll be able to find.

The Movement - Cal. FE 2D1 (ETA 2452) in nice condition and running very well for unknown service history. These are excellent movements with parts availability, which is always a plus for long-term ownership.

[All vintage watches are expected to function as described. However, due to age and generally unknown service history (unless otherwise stated), these watches may not keep time as accurately as new or quartz (battery) watches. This is completely normal and does not indicate that there is a major problem. Like your automobile, all mechanical watches will likely need to be serviced at some point in time. Please keep this in mind, as there is no guarantee regarding when these vintage watches may need standard maintenance. Every watch sold by Buying On Time is done so with the expectation that it is not currently in need of service or repair, unless noted. We guarantee that all watches sold are accurately described and in the stated condition when they leave our hands.]
